Busses: Everyone has travelled in them
I am one of those people who although have a car but prefer to travel by bus-for numerous reason, parking, traffic jams, expensive fuel etc.
I am not the only one who does this, but other do it as well. My common route is from North Karachi to I.I. Chundrigarh Road. Now that is a long way, and usually takes me about an hour and a half, although by car I would reach early but not interested in that.
Every day I see different people travelling with me, sometimes I see common faces, usually students and blue collared job people. My travel is usually by standing and if I am lucky, I can get a seat. I see students hanging from the door of the bus and people getting on and off the bus frequently.
Most of the readers would agree how dangerous all this is as the driver stops for hardly a second especially in the morning, due to this time called “Token Time”.
Many people have fallen due to the driver’s carelessness and many have fallen due to the people standing at the door, I fell due to the passengers standing at the door.
Once I was travelling in U-8, on my way to university, a good looking girl, hardly 12-14 years old, was trying to get off and the driver started to drive the bus and the poor girl fell. Her uniform got all dirty and no one even bothered to say anything to the driver, maybe we are used to all this.
What I have seen and heard people is that it’s the “Badmashi” of these bus drivers or the actual owners that cause this chaos. They drive like lunatics!
Well that can be said about the regular 10 rupee bus trip. Not the big problem.
My problem is Green Buses. Convenient, stop at their designated places, proper ticketing system, but the drivers are hell crazy. They will change lanes without informing whilst approaching their stops, and I guess everyone reading this would recall the video during the last rain when the green bus driver drove fast in a flooded area causing injuries to the poor pedestrian.
Is this the benefit we are getting from our bus or local transport system? Why doesn’t our government look into this? Majority of government and private firm employees travel to the offices in these old junkyard machines! Why doesn’t the government even care to inspect these vehicles? They know this is happening and yet no one does anything.
How many of you got cuts on your hands, shoulders or knees sitting in the bus, they (drivers/conductors/bus owners) don’t care as long as you are paying the fare to travel. One cut, if left unattended can cause serious damages to the body-even cancer.
We need to have something done about this transport system. And hey, forget the busses, look at our national air line carrier; we can understand where the bus system is getting the influence from
